What are the benefits of NAD+?

NAD+ is the precursor to all energy production in the body. It is what creates the cofactor for cellular energy. As we age, our levels of NAD+ become lower. Many age-associated disorders and diseases can be traced back to low levels of NAD+. Metabolic disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, and mental disorders all have been linked to these low levels. NAD+ biosynthesis has been targeted as an area that can treat or prevent these disease processes. The age-related disorders that can occur have been seen in studies to benefit from taking NAD+ intermediates such as nicotinamide mononucleotide and nicotinamide riboside. Both of these products can be taken orally but only IV NAD+ can be absorbed directly (Johnson). It has been well documented that NAD+ has a role in anti-aging and longevity. The NAD+ salvage pathway that creates NAD+ involves tryptophan (an amino acid) as a starting point. Other pathways that use tryptophan are serotonin and melatonin. These two molecules help with sleep, the gut, and mood. When more NAD+ production is needed such as in inflammation, tryptophan is diverted towards making more NAD+ and less serotonin and melatonin (Yaku). This molecule also plays a large role in skeletal muscle development. It helps with regeneration, aging, and disease. Higher levels of NAD+ have been found to be great at augmenting muscle health (Goody).

Typically a NAD+ IV will take around 3-4 hours. Patient’s generally state they have a euphoric feeling after the therapy with increased endurance, energy, and elevated mood.
